Signal has the same functionality as WhatsApp, Viber, and Telegram, and it can be used on a desktop or laptop. Follow the instructions below to utilize Signal on your Windows or Mac computer. Before we get into the details of the processes, there are a few things you should know about the Signal platform.
What is Signal?
Signal is a free messaging program developed by Signal Technology Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC that employs end-to-end encryption to keep your chats and data secret. Like Telegram and WhatsApp, the program employs normal cellular phone numbers as identification. Its software is accessible for iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, and Linux users and is free and open-source.
How To Connect and Use Signal On Desktop And Laptop
Start by downloading and installing the Signal app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device so you can use it on your PC. You must also download and install the Signal on your computer, whether it is running Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux.
When you run Signal for Desktop after installing it on your computer, you’ll see a QR code. The following step is to open the Signal app on your smartphone or tablet.
If you’re using Android, tap on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner, then go to Settings > Linked Devices and select the “+” button. On iPhone and iPad, tap on your profile picture in the top-left corner to open the “Settings” menu, then select Linked Devices > Link New Device.
Signal will ask for permission to use the camera on your device to scan the QR code in the desktop app. All you have to do now is provide permission.
After that, the phone app will ask whether you’re sure you want to connect to the desktop app. To continue, tap “Link Device.”
The desktop program will ask for a chosen name for your machine after it has been attached. Fill in any name and then click “Finish Linking Phone.”
Now you have to wait for the desktop software to sync your phone’s contacts and groups. It may take a few minutes to complete this task.
You’ll notice your discussions on the sidebar after that’s done. There will be no messages synchronized between the discussions. This is a precautionary measure.
Note: that the desktop app’s UI is identical to that of the mobile app. Just like on your phone, you can make video and voice calls, send audio messages, attach photographs and videos, and utilize stickers.
